Reflection
This project was incredibly fun and I am very pleased with the final outcome. During the project, we were pushed to take control of our learning independently, much like the Passive Solar Home project. The processes of completing first the various electricity experiments, and then teaching ourselves how to code using the Arduino sketchbook, guidebook, and circuit board helped me to develop greater skills to teach myself. The project also helped me to get out of my comfort zone. This year, I was introduced to group learning, but on a slightly smaller scale. During this unit, we were expected to understand, to me, somewhat abstract topics within a time frame, all within a group of four people (with some teacher intervention).
Some things that went well during this project were the final product, and learning the topics successfully. Our work during the coding was very productive, although it did take a lot of time. We utilized our time during class fairly well, and we made an exceptional light show. In the processes of teaching ourselves, we made sure that we all understood the topics before moving on. Some things that could have gone better were being more on topic and mediating withing our group more. Because I was in a group with two outgoing people, we often would talk about other things and not always be focusing on the experiments. Mediating more efficiently would have also been better for this project. For a couple of days, our group was not really in sync, and we argued in between some of the experiments. If we had reconciled our problems more quickly, we could have had more time to make the light show. I enjoyed this project very much, and I'm proud of the outcome. I am happy that I was able to learn within the group independently, and I hope our final project is like this one.
